As far as we are aware, the last remaining active teacher of Red Boat Ving Tsun from Guangzhou, China. Grand Master Li has been training for more than half a century since starting his martial arts journey at just 7 years old. Initially he followed his father and uncle in their practice of Ving Tsun, ultimately studying under Sifu Qingcheng Chen. In 2008, Sifu Li opened his first Ving Tsun Instinct school, determined to pass this Kung Fu system along to the next generation.
He is the founder of the Ving Tsun Instinct International Association.

After many years of study with his teacher, Sifu Li, including several visits to China for private lessons, Master Peterson is now ranked 10th degree black belt and a licensed master instructor of Red Boat Ving Tsun in the Ving Tsun Instinct International Association. Until recently he was the only active teacher of this system in America.
He has significant insight and real life experience in dealing with the criminal element after working in a high crime area of a major city for many years, and reviewing videos of assaults and other violent criminal offenses.
From August 2023, Sifu Peterson is teaching Red Boat Ving Tsun from Rapid City, SD.

Taking private lessons with Sifu Peterson since he moved to Arizona after a decade living and training in South East Asia, and recently promoted to Arizona State Director within the Ving Tsun Instinct International Association, Gary is the lead instructor in the Prescott area, teaching group classes twice per week and offering private classes from his home.
No matter the venue, he promotes a learning in an informal family like environment with his Kung Fu brothers and sisters.
